James can opt out of the last year of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers and become a free agent at season’s end.

Kanter posted a video to Twitter on Monday imploring James to consider joining the Knicks.

“People keep debating about who is the king of New York. … Hey LeBron, yes, you really want to be king of New York? Come and prove it. I’ll see you July 1, brother. Good luck,” Kanter said.

He was referencing an Instagram post made by James following a Cleveland win over the Knicks at Madison Square Garden earlier this season.

Kanter was not pleased with James’ use of the nickname.

“I don’t care who you are. What do you call yourself? ‘King’, ‘Queen’, ‘Princess’, whatever you are,” Kanter said in November (via ESPN).

“We’re going to fight. Nobody out there is going to punk us.”

The Knicks hired David Fizdale last week to replace Jeff Hornacek as their head coach.

James played for Fizdale from 2010-14 while he was an assistant in Miami.
